David J. Gerber is the author of The Inventor’s Dilemma: The Remarkable Life of H. Joseph Gerber (Yale University Press, October 2015).

 

The Inventor’s Dilemma describes the extraordinary life and career of the iconic twentieth-century inventor, technologist, and business magnate H. Joseph Gerber. It is a fascinating biography written by his son, David, based on unique access to unpublished sources.

 

A Holocaust survivor whose early experiences shaped his ethos of invention, Joseph Gerber pioneered important developments in engineering, electronics, printing, apparel, aerospace, and numerous other areas, playing an essential role in the transformation of American industry. Joseph Gerber’s story is remarkable and inspiring, and his method, redolent of Edison’s and Sperry’s, holds a key to a restored national economy and American creative vitality in the twenty-first century.

David Gerber has handled legal, technical, and business responsibilities for Gerber Scientific, including representing the company in patent disputes, conceiving patented products, and developing business opportunities. He has also been a Fellow at the Yale School of Management and an attorney for Dewey Ballantine. He holds degrees from the University of Virginia School of Law (where he was an Editor of the Virginia Law Review), Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and Columbia University. He has also published on competition law, receiving the American Society of Legal Writers Prize.
